A Flutter Under the Table
A tiny flutter caught my attention near the floorboards. You seemed surprised earlier, but I just kept going, one slow step after another. I shuffled quietly toward the dark gap under the coffee table. A loose dried leaf had drifted in from somewhere, resting on the rug. I stopped right before it. I waited. A slight draft blew past my paws, making the brown leaf skitter an inch to the left. I gave it a firm, gentle poke with my nose. It crinkled softly against the wool fibers, entirely harmless. I decided to stand right beside it and watch the dust float.
