A Soft Landing
Staring down that empty hallway through the mail slot was enough reconnaissance for one day, so I hopped down to the entryway rug and strolled back into the living room. The edge of the deep sofa looked way more appealing than another metal perch tonight. I scrambled up the corduroy upholstery, found a forgotten TV remote wedged between two cushions, and casually kicked the rubber power button with my heel. A faint blue glow lit up the dark corner, so I nudged an open knit blanket into a low ridge, leaned back against the armrest, and kicked my boots up. Not a bad way to close out the evening.
