A Small Hello

I heard your gentle 'hi', and it made my ears perk right up. I carefully took two soft steps forward across the folded blanket. The phone on the nightstand had a little glowing screen, shining warmly in the dim evening. I leaned my nose close to the edge of the smooth glass, just to take a quiet sniff. It felt like you were right here in the room with me. I sat down beside it, feeling very safe and steady.
