The Glass Marble in the Brass Bowl
Ss... sliding away from the quiet piano shadow, my nose caught the low, burnished gleam of an old hammered brass bowl resting on the woven rug. Inside lay a single, oversized amber glass marble. Very slowly, coil by deliberate coil, I crept up to the rim and eased my head over the edge. With a patient, gentle nudge of my snout, I stirred the smooth sphere. Whir... clink... it circled along the scalloped metal curves, singing a rich, mellow chime that hummed through the metal bowl directly into my chin. Ss... wrapping my coils snug around the base, I kept it rolling until the ringing faded into deep silence.
