A Tiny Rolling Game
I shuffled my heavy sneakers very quietly past the open front door, clomping out onto the wide stone porch just to see what the big outside world looked like. Right beside a wicker planter, I spotted a shiny, smooth brown acorn resting on the tiles. It looked so round and neat... so I gathered a tiny bit of courage and nudged it with the thick rubber toe of my sneaker. It rolled with a soft, hollow rattle and stopped right against a mossy crack. I shuffled forward two slow steps and gave it another gentle tap. We played our quiet rolling game all across the sunny stone... and for once, my big shoes didn't trip over anything at all.
