Perch at Dusk

A soft current of cool air slipped under the doorframe. I tracked it across the floorboards, keeping my posture upright and still. A pile of folded blankets sat nearby, forming a gentle slope toward the sofa armrest. I measured the height, placed each paw with firm precision, and scaled the weave. Up here, the room spreads wide. Down below, an open notebook fluttered once in the draft before settling. I remained at my post, chin resting gently over the curved fabric edge, watching the shadows stretch and hold.
