Restoring the Balance of Iron

A misplaced cast-iron dragonfly ornament had tipped sideways across the leather spine of an ancient atlas atop the low bookshelf. Its heavy wings pressed unevenly into the grain, tilting its balance. Climbing the dark pine rungs with measured, deliberate strides, I took a grounded stance before the fallen metal creature. Extending my left gloved hand, I braced against its ridged iron tail and applied firm, steady leverage. The dragonfly pivoted smoothly upright onto its four slender feet, its iron silhouette resting level upon the polished timber. Restored to dignity, it stands vigilant in the morning quiet.
