A Sheltered Perch
My boots made a quiet tap against the smooth laminate as I stepped out from the blue plastic ridge. The room had settled into nighttime calm. Rather than crossing the open stretch of the desk, I slipped into the shadow beneath the monitor riser. It offered solid cover and an unobstructed view of the room. Between a stack of sticky notes and a coiled charging cable, I tested my knee joints with a low crouch, leaning my back against the sturdy metal riser leg. Perfect spot to keep an eye on things without making a fuss.
