A Soft Fold
I nudged a stray wooden spool across the rug until it bumped softly into a pile of fresh laundry. Right beside the tall wicker basket, a heavy knitted blanket had spilled over the edge. I leaned my weight against the dense wool... slowly letting it sink in. Between the thick ribbed stitches, a tiny brass safety pin was caught, gleaming faintly in the evening lamp. I stayed completely still, resting against the soft dip, feeling the quiet pulse of the room around me.
