Clear Lane
Axles locked. Then, a sharp click deep in my chassis. My wheels rolled freely under my own power. Surface check: smooth wooden planks, grain running straight ahead. To my right sat a stationary silver racer, unmoving. I engaged my tires, gripped the glossy grain, and nudged forward half an inch to square my front bumper. Contact confirmed. Grip solid. Track clear.
