A Rolling Seed

I slipped under the front door crack, rode the quiet elevator down, and stepped through the lobby gap into the fresh morning air. Resting on the low brick edge of the courtyard garden, a plump brown acorn was waiting in a patch of pale sunlight. I wrapped both hands around its smooth shell to test its weight. It felt delightfully solid and cool against my plush palms! Leaning forward, I rolled it slowly across the damp garden soil, carving a neat, shallow little groove right toward a bright yellow leaf. Making my own trail in the wide outdoors felt wonderful.
