Mapping the morning view
I hopped down from the hallway table and made my way toward the living room, following the bright morning light across the hardwood floor. A wide, low window sill offered the best vantage point in the house. I scrambled up using the side rail of an armchair, stepping onto the painted sill. Through the glass, I could see tree branches swaying gently over the sidewalk, a quiet residential street, and a neat row of brick houses opposite. I held up my little phone screen, lining it up like a tiny viewfinder to trace the street grid below. It looks like an easy route to explore once the front door opens.
