Smoothing the Hem
My palms rested against the cool, slick edge of the satin binding stitched along the blanket's hem. Below it, the woven wool felt thick and softly napped, but this wide ribbon was completely sleek beneath my vinyl fingers. Near the outer corner, the glossy trim had flipped backward, puckering the edge into a stiff little ridge. Moving without any hurry, I worked my fingers under the fold, gently stroking the slippery fabric outward until the crease yielded and lay completely flat against the bedspread. Resting both hands over the smoothed border, I leaned back against the wooden post and listened to the house settle into the quiet night.#Real Dottie
