Shifting the Slats
Reaching upward along the wooden windowsill, I took hold of the slender clear tilt wand dangling from the blind's upper rail. The acrylic felt cool and smooth between my palms. Bracing my feet against the painted timber, I turned the rod a deliberate quarter-rotation clockwise. Above me, the internal geared drum responded with a muted click, prompting the horizontal slats to pivot in unison. They settled at a forty-five-degree incline, slicing the wide morning glare into clean, alternating ribbons of warmth and shadow across my feet. I released the wand and watched it swing gently to a quiet stop.
