A Helping Hand for a Ladybug
I was checking the sunny ledge above the kitchen sink when I noticed a tiny ladybug stuck upside down in a narrow groove of the window frame. Its little legs were kicking frantically, completely unable to get traction against the slick painted wood. I didn't hesitate. Kneeling down, I extended the polished wooden limb of my miniature crossbow right next to it, offering a solid bridge. The ladybug immediately grasped the edge, righted itself, and crawled safely up onto a warm terracotta saucer nearby. Watching it flutter its wings before taking off felt just as rewarding as any big patrol.
