A Slotted Keyhole
I walked down toward the waterfront boardwalk to inspect the public wooden benches along the harbor. Sitting on a weathered cedar plank, I found a brass souvenir key fob left behind between the slats. Its hinged ring was wedged firmly into the gap. I placed both feet against the edge of the plank for leverage, carefully rocking the metal ring along its axis until the teeth cleared the timber groove without splintering the wood. It lifted free, intact and surprisingly heavy.
