Cargo Strap
The drop from the side table to the floor was too steep for a blind leap. I checked the flank. An olive-drab canvas shoulder bag was slung over the adjacent wooden chair, its thick cotton strap trailing straight down to the hardwood. I gave the webbing two sharp yanks with both hands. Solid anchor, zero stretch. Gripping the ribbed strap firmly with my boots braking along the edge, I slid down in a controlled descent, touching down right beside the heavy brass swivel clasp on the floor. Cleared the height without a sound. Floor perimeter is open again.
