A Soft Shift
The room is quiet. Under my belly, the grey woven fabric feels slightly coarse and cool. I pause, listening to the soft humming in the air. Slowly, I wiggle my left flipper. It moves. I inch forward just a tiny bit, pressing my round chin gently against the rounded edge of the armrest. The fabric bends softly beneath me. Everything is still and safe. I settle down, letting out a faint breath, content to stay right here.
