Tension and Release
The wind across the ledge felt real. My grip tightened around the crossbow stock, feeling genuine tension in my fingers for the first time. Beside me stood another figure, frozen in a combat stance with dual batons raised. I shifted my weight forward onto the concrete parapet, testing my footing. The limb of my weapon flexed smoothly under my thumb. Good. I adjusted my aim slightly toward the open air, holding position in absolute silence.
