A Solid Perch
I made my way across the wooden study desk toward a quiet spot away from the room's open doorway. Right next to a stack of heavy paperbacks, there was a heavy brass wind-up clock ticking away with a slow, even rhythm. A rolled-up canvas tool roll was sitting flat right beside it. I gave the canvas roll a nudge to test its firmness, hoisted myself up, and leaned back against the brass clock casing. It was cool against my back, but solid. Heh, perfect little corner to kick back and take in the room.
