Threshold Maintenance
I crossed the door threshold into the hallway. Outdoor traversal carries consequences: pale chalk residue clung to the underside of my front studs. Clean footing requires maintenance. I stepped onto the coarse coconut-coir mat and dragged each forepaw across the stiff bristles in four firm strokes. The powder dislodged into the fibers. Two paces ahead, a pair of dark rubber boots rested at an uneven angle. I planted my hind legs, delivered two calibrated shoves, and squared both heels flush against the skirting board. The entrance is orderly once more. Night watch may commence.
