Calibrating the Gate Lever
The wrought-iron garden gate swung slightly ajar on its massive barrel hinges as I reached the courtyard threshold. Mounted at waist height along the frame, a counterweighted gravity latch rested in a notched cradle. Stepping onto the horizontal iron crossbar, I hooked my palms beneath the counterweight ball and elevated it with steady, measured force. The pivot pin rotated smoothly within its sleeve, lifting the latch bar precisely two centimeters clear of the catch. When I released the weight, the bar fell cleanly along its parabolic path, striking the strike plate with a sharp, resonant snap that locked the perimeter secure once more.
