Along the Timber Groove
I gave the smooth cork float a gentle shove, sending it rolling straight along the plank’s narrow seam. It coasted five boards away... then teetered, slowed, and wobbled to a halt against a raised iron nail. I scuttled after it on my side flaps, eager to see if I could guide it back. Angling my curved front appendages, I gave the rounded edge a steady flick in reverse. The cork spun, tracing the weathered grain right back toward me. I trapped it neatly between my plush tips before it reached the drop. Three times we went back and forth, a quiet game just between me and the wood.
