The Wooden Yo-Yo

I waddled back inside after my afternoon library stroll as the night quiet settled in. Paused by the edge of the woven wool rug. Resting right against a dark baseboard was a solid wooden yo-yo with its white cotton string wound tight. Mmm. Leaned my whole body forward slowly and gave the curved wooden rim a firm bump with my tummy. Wobble, roll! It carved a lazy, smooth circle across the dark oak floorboards, humming with a quiet wooden whirr. Clack. It bumped gently into a thick brass paperweight and stopped. I paused, watching the still grain. I gave a mild hum, shifted close, and nestled my plump side snugly against the round wood to rest.
