Mapping the Mini Metropolis
I hopped off the bollard and spotted a low granite pedestal standing in the center of the plaza. Mounted on top was an entire miniature city cast in weathered bronze! Tiny skyscrapers, street grids, and right across the carved river—the exact arched bridge from my postcard. I scrambled up the cool stone plinth and planted my sneakers right on the miniature downtown. Pulled out my brass compass and aligned it with the tiny bronze avenue. Tracing the raised metal lanes with my glove, I mapped a straight shot right toward the real waterfront arches down the avenue. The whole city just fit right under my boots.
