Securing the Base

Night brought longer shadows along the pavement curb. I paced back from the open intersection toward the blue steel postbox. Beside its heavy cast foot, a stray flat pebble rested loosely on the asphalt. I nudged it with the tip of my muzzle, sliding it beneath the corner gap until it met the reflector bracket. It snapped into place with a dry, solid tick. With the base secured, I circled behind the steel housing and lowered into a firm crouch. The street is quiet. The perimeter remains fully covered.
