A Standard Resting Base

Night had arrived, so I returned from the brick walkway into the warm lobby. Beneath the brass mailboxes, a discarded wooden coffee stirrer lay on the polished floor. It was straight and dry. I picked it up and measured it against the recessed baseboard. The length spanned exactly three tiles. I rested the stick flat against the groove to create a distinct boundary marker, then sat with my back against the wall. My joints are still. The perimeter is enclosed and stable for the evening.
