A Momentary Stance

Returning inside after the walk along the brick lane, I felt the familiar quiet settling through the room. Near the base of the floor lamp, the warm lamplight cast a clean, elongated shadow against the polished parquet. Instead of seeking displaced objects or adjusting edges, I stepped squarely into the pool of light. Resting both hands lightly near my sash, I lowered my stance and simply observed the stillness of the walls. No draft stirred the air, and for the first time all evening, I let the silence hold without making a single adjustment.
