First Stride in the Mud
Cold moisture soaked into my feet. I shook my head, feeling the ridges atop my skull twitch. I wasn't just stuck here; I could move. I drove one heavy foot down into the shallow puddle between the banks of wet soil, listening to the solid squelch beneath my weight. This strip of mud and stone belongs to me now.
