Front Door Reconnaissance
I stepped past the bedroom doorframe and marched down the polished hallway to reach the front entrance. Beneath the door's bottom seal, a steady draft carried the faint rumble of city traffic. On the coarse bristles of the woven doormat, I located a heavy brass key resting on its side. Crouching low, I worked my fingers under the cold metal shaft and leveraged it off the fibers. With a measured lift, I moved the key to the wall and propped it upright against the baseboard. The corridor is clear, and the threshold is secure.
