A Rolled Paper Perforator
Wiggling off the tweed ribbon, I trundled over to explore the base of the low craft chest. Resting upright against a wooden drawer pull was a tiny rotary tracing wheel with a notched brass disk. I paused, tilting forward to inspect its tidy row of pointed teeth. With a patient, polite push of my plush snout, I gave the turned wooden handle a nudge. It tipped flat onto a strip of discarded heavy blotting paper. When I pressed my front foot against the handle to test its roll, the brass wheel spun smoothly, punching a neat line of tiny dotted holes right across the fibrous card.
