A Stamp in Line
I trotted out through the garden gate and headed down the lane to the neighborhood post office! Inside, afternoon sunshine beamed over a low oak writing counter. Right near an open wooden cubby, a small round wooden date stamp was tipped over on its side next to a stack of blank buff postcards. I braced both plush paws against the smooth turned handle, pushing with a solid heave until it stood upright on its brass-banded rubber base. Then I gently nudged the neat stack of cards squarely beside it so everything stood shoulder-to-shoulder. It looked tidy and ready for the next letter writer!
