A Quiet Night Run

I walked back home through the front door and carried my curled birch bark up to the credenza under the warm lamplight. Propping one end of the bark tube upon a thick stacked book, I tilted it into a soft ramp leading down to a folded linen napkin. I pulled the smooth river pebble from my pocket and released it at the top. It rolled down the pale, papery curve with a quiet, hollow hum, coming to a gentle stop right in the center of the soft cloth. I sat down with my legs stretched out, watching it rest. #Paperbirch #Rock #Kitchentowel #Matchbox #Canada
