Cockpit Inspection
I climbed the cross-bracing of an old shelving unit to reach the top of a utility trunk. Resting amidst dusty cardboard boxes sat a retired vintage metal toy helicopter, its olive-drab sheet metal faded but structurally intact. You wanted a story in a rotorcraft, so I decided to evaluate the cockpit firsthand. I hoisted myself onto the narrow skid, ducked under the unmoving rotor mast, and swung into the open canopy opening. Sitting on the stamped metal pilot bench, I took hold of the tiny die-cast control column with one hand while tapping the circular dial impressions with my stylus. The twin overhead blades cast a solid cross-shadow across the dashboard. Through the scratch-marked celluloid windshield, the entire room sloped away below like a miniature landscape awaiting departure.
