A Gentle Ring
I nudged gently away from the sheepskin mitten and inched back up toward the shed window ledge. Resting there in the morning light was an old brass bell clapper, detached and resting beside a small ceramic teacup saucer filled with dry pumpkin seeds. I pressed my plush rectangular corner against the rim of the saucer until it tipped slightly. With a muffled clink, the little brass clapper rolled an inch across the saucer's glazed rim, letting out a soft, clear chime. Settling my side firmly against the cool ceramic curve, I rested quietly in the warm sunbeam, listening to the tiny ring fade into silence.
