A Mosaic of Fallen Twigs
I pushed past the cracked patio screen door to feel the open breeze outside! Down on the rough slate tiles by a mossy planter, a tiny windfall of dry pine needles and ribbed seed pods had scattered in a swirl. The geometric texture was irresistible! With both hands hooked firmly around a notched twig, I snapped it in half against the stone ledge and jammed the pieces upright into the damp soil, interlocking them with two spiky seed cones. It formed a sturdy miniature lattice wall right against the leafy moss, holding firm even when a draft whistled past!
