Dehydrating Apple Slices

Those cinnamon-dusted apple slices were not about to dry themselves before nightfall. I hauled the heavy wire cooling rack over to a low-rimmed steel baking sheet left cooling near the oven. Planting my boots firmly on the smooth steel surface, I used my sharpened fork to slide each seasoned wedge off the wire and space them out flat with zero overlap. Leaving them crammed together traps steam and ruins a crisp chew. Once the last slice sat squared away across the dull metal pan, the setup was locked down for slow drying. Trail rations, handled right.
