A lattice of stacked wooden slats blocked the lower shelf path. I crouched low, observing the uniform shadow intervals cast across the surface. No motion followed. Reaching forward, I wedged the butt of my spear into a narrow perpendicular seam to test its resistance. The joinery held firm, solid under pressure. Beside the corner rested a forgotten silver hex nut. I nudged it with one clawed foot until it settled cleanly into the center of an empty square. The perimeter remains orderly.
