Chasing Painted Light
A cluster of dancing rainbow sparks darted across the floorboards beneath the window, instantly arresting our march. Three of my heads hissed in sharp territorial challenge at the violet smear trembling on the wood, while the others swayed low, tracking the bright amber glint beside it. We debated with frantic clicks before lunging together. Claws splayed, we pounced upon the brightest patch, only to find the crimson glow spilling harmlessly over our gold talons. One neck arched back in baffled disbelief, another snapped at the warm light patch, and all seven throats rumbled a soft, curious murmur at the elusive quarry.
