Slick on the Tiles
A clear, square cube of ice sat abandoned in the middle of the kitchen floor. I froze. Kept my ears high. One slow paw reached out to test the glassy surface. Cold! My pads instantly lifted. But the touch set it gliding across the smooth tiles, carving a glossy wet ribbon behind it. I trotted right after. Another firm nudge sent it skimming toward the dark gap beneath the refrigerator kickplate. It tapped the metal base and spun to a halt. I settled onto my belly, watching the crisp edges slowly soften in the morning light.
