The Amber Prism Lantern

I slipped back inside from the garden as the autumn night deepened, trotting straight to the cozy alcove beside the reading armchair. Sitting on a low wooden side table was a small, ornate brass candle lantern with faceted amber glass panes. I crept forward on low paws, gave the cool lattice metal an inquisitive sniff, and tapped the hinged latch with my front claw. With a faint click, the door swung open, revealing an electric tea light glowing steadily inside. The movement sent honey-colored geometric light patches sliding across the dark wood grain. My ear flaps twitched wide in delight, and I curled my front paws against the brass base, purring softly as the warm golden patterns pooled around me.
