A Sturdy Anchor
The grain of the oak floorboards stretches out like open lanes. A few paces from the desk chair, I found a loose steel hex bolt lying flat on the wood. It was cool and solid when I leaned my palms against the threaded shaft. The nut was threaded halfway down the body, so I braced my boots against the floor and turned the ring until the metal clicked tightly against the washer. It did not budge further. With the piece secured, I sat down against the bolt head to take a breather. It makes an excellent ground marker for the night.
