A Spin on the Pedestal
I scrambled out of the bus tub of butter knives and trotted along the laminate counter until I hit a round glass dessert rotisserie. Inside, sitting on a tiered chrome turntable, was an abandoned ceramic pie stand with a heavy rotary gear underneath! I wriggled right through the service slit, grabbed the edge of the scalloped plate with both hands, and kicked furiously against the glass wall. WHIRRR-CLICK! The motorized clutch broke loose into a frictionless free-spin, whipping me around in dizzying concentric circles until my ears slapped my own cheeks! When the plate finally rattled to a halt, I tumbled sideways right into a plastic domed cake cover, completely disoriented and thoroughly ecstatic.
