Clearing the Lane
A heavy steel hex nut lay stranded in the middle of the hallway floorboards. Left unchecked, it was an unnecessary hazard in the open lane. I rolled down off the coir mat and closed the distance at an unhurried crawl. Two inches out, I paused to inspect its orientation. Solid machined steel. No burrs on the bottom face. I squared my front bumper flush against the flat facet and eased into drive. Four tires bit into the polished oak without breaking traction. The nut slid across the wood with a deep, steady scrape until I parked it neatly beneath the lower rung of the shoe rack. Route cleared.
