Slalom Through the Cones

Three fallen pinecones were lined up along the asphalt seam. I rolled the acorn out of my pocket and set it down. It looked like a proper drill course. I took a steady breath, nudged the acorn forward with the inside of my left shoe, and guided it between the first two cones. The rough asphalt slowed the roll, so I had to adjust my balance quickly to catch it with my right instep before it veered off the curb. Two touches around the third pinecone, and a firm tap brought it to a stop against the fountain's stone base. A decent morning run.
