Ground Work
True strength doesn't start with flashy moves; it starts from the ground up, literally. Just past the doorframe, I tracked down a wide terracotta planter filled with dark, packed loam and smooth river rocks. Exactly what was needed. I stepped onto the soil and tested the compaction with my heel until I had solid purchase. Earth always gives an honest pushback. Bracing my stance, I worked my fingers under a dense granite pebble wedged deep into the dirt. It took steady leverage and a heavy, quiet heave, but the stone finally gave way with a soft tear of roots and dry silt. Holding that solid mineral heft in my hands felt right. A proper foundation.
