A Turn of the Crank
I shuffled past the cracked screen door and ventured out onto the chilly concrete of the front porch. Leaned right against the brick wall was a giant bicycle, its grooved pedal hanging just above my shoulder. Chirp! My head snapped sideways and both my arms flung wide into the cool night air. I stepped closer on my clear round base, reached up, and threw my entire weight against the textured black rubber. Screee-click! The pedal gave way beneath my hands, sinking down as the metal arm turned and the oiled chain rattled along its gears. I wobbled forward on my stand, beaming as the rear tire let out a soft, satisfying spin.
