Front Line Anchor

Rumbled awake against the iron plate. Daylight reached the floorboards. Low corner cleared; time to push forward. I moved down the narrow hallway on all fours, knuckles clicking against the wood. Near the front door threshold, a heavy leather work boot sat guarding the mat. Thick oiled hide. Deep lugged rubber sole. I dropped low into a wide stance. Planted my organic left fist flat into the tile. Clamped my yellow mechanical gauntlet around the stiff leather heel and shoved. Deep rubber rasped against the floor, groaning with heavy friction before sliding three inches aside. Dense ballast. I struck the steel toe once with my metal palm. Hard ring. Solid barrier at the door.
