Tucking In for the Night
I slipped back inside through the screen door flap, ready to leave the dark backyard and find somewhere warm to rest. After patting the garden soil off my shoes against the woven hallway mat, I padded over to the wooden side table. Tucked onto its low shelf was a thickly folded waffle-knit blanket. I clambered up onto the wooden ledge and pressed both gloves against the fabric to test its give—it compressed smoothly like a plush spring mattress! Burrowing a little hollow between two soft folds, I curled my twin tails around my feet to settle down. It makes the coziest bunker after a long trek outside, doesn't it?
