First Firm Step
Stiffness broke first in my fists. I clenched my fingers tight. Solid. I leaned forward, pressing down into the dark wooden grain beneath my boots. It felt flat and unyielding. I pushed down with my knuckle, testing the resistance. A dull, quiet thud echoed back. The ground holds firm. I can stand on my own.
